Tracy and I both came from the same place—International Falls—a small northern town where everybody knows everybody… or at least knows of them. We walked the same school hallways, sat in the same classrooms, and even graduated in the same year. Funny enough, we barely spoke a word to each other back then. Just two lives moving in parallel, completely unaware of what was down the road.
Like a lot of small-town stories, we both married young and started families of our own. Life carried us in different directions—different paths, different experiences, different chapters. Years turned into decades as we focused on raising our kids and building our separate lives.
Then somewhere in our 40s, after the kids were grown and the dust had settled a bit, life cracked open the door to something new. We reconnected online—casually at first, then more and more. What started as catching up quickly turned into a genuine friendship, the kind that feels easy and familiar, like it had been waiting for us all along.
Eventually, Tracy decided to come visit me in Michigan’s U.P.—just a simple trip, nothing too big. Except… she never left. And just like that, two people who barely spoke in high school found themselves starting their next chapter together.
We were married on Valentine’s Day in Michigan’s U.P. in 2022—because if you’re going to start a love story, you might as well lean all the way in. Not long after, we traded snow boots for sunshine and moved to the French Quarter, chasing warmer weather, live music, and a little more spark in our day-to-day lives.

Somewhere between the late nights and lively streets, we realized we were craving something deeper—something more meaningful than the usual 9-to-5 routine. So, we took a leap, left our jobs behind, and set out on a new path together. Now, we’re traveling, learning everything we can about permaculture and sustainable homesteading, with the dream of building a life rooted in the land. Through WWOOF and this blog, we’re sharing the journey—one lesson, one adventure, and one muddy pair of boots at a time.
